Why I Always Put a Water Bottle on the Floor Before Bed on a Cruise

I learned this trick the hard way. On the third night of a Caribbean cruise, I woke up to that strange swaying feeling, not the usual gentle rocking, but something different. Half-asleep, I tried to get out of bed and ended up on the floor. Disoriented and confused, I suddenly remembered a tip I’d heard once: “Always leave a water bottle on the floor next to your bed.”

Sure enough, the bottle I had rolled slightly. The water inside rippled more than usual. It hit me, the ship was tilting ever so slightly. That little bottle gave me just enough warning to steady myself and avoid getting hurt.

A few minutes later, the captain made an announcement: minor stabilizer issue, nothing major. But I was already wide awake, thankful for that simple tip.

Now, every time I cruise, the first thing I do before bed? Put a bottle of water on the floor. Trust me, it’s worth it.
